Dorchester High School (first) opens.

December 31, 1852

(Dec.) Originally the Dorchester Avenue School, it is located at the corner of Dorchester Avenue and Gibson Street near today’s 1591 Dorchester Avenue. The first high school in Dorchester, it opens with 59 students. William Role is the first principal. he school moves to a new building (second) on Dorchester Avenue (second) in 1870,* another new building (third) on Talbot Avenue 1901,* then to its current building (fourth) on Peacevale Road in 1925.* Graduates include Ray Bolger (Raymond Bulcao) and Rose Fitzgerald. The school is divided into three separate learning academies within the Dorchester Educational Complex in 2003.
